The fourth international tourism exhibition, ITE – HCM City 2008, will take place at the Phu Tho Sports House in HCM City from September 12-14, announced the HCM City Department of Tourism.

Around 150 international travel firms, at the invitation of 12 international airlines, will participate in the exhibition as buyers.

La Quoc Khanh, Deputy Director of the HCM City Department of Tourism, said besides familiar markets, ITE – HCM City 2008 aims to attract potential partners like Russia, Spain and the Middle East.

Khanh said the organising board will invite Miss Earth 2007 Jessica Trisko (Canada) to visit the exhibition.

Miss Earth 2006 and two other competitors in the Miss Earth 2006 pageant came to HCM City last year to advertise the 3^rd ITE – HCM City 2007 exhibition.

By 2025 the airport will be able to accommodate six million passengers

Da Nang International Airport will be able to receive up to four million passengers and 80,000 tonnes of luggage a year by 2015. And by 2025, it will be able to handle six million passengers a year.

Da Nang International Airport will be able to receive up to 6 million passengers by 2025.

At present, the airport can only handle about one million passengers yearly, but significant growth in tourism and business in the central region have led to plans for an upgrade.

A scheme announced last week states that it will still serve both military and civil operations until 2025. However, military use has been declining steadily in recent years.

The upgrade will follow standards set by the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO).

By 2015, the airport will be able to receive the largest aircraft, including Boeing 747s and 777s and Airbuses in 21 landing positions. It will be capable of receiving 2000 visitors in a rush hour.

By 2025, landing positions will be increased to 27 and the airport will be able to process up to 3,000 passengers an hour.

The total investment for the upgrade and expansion will be nearly VND5 trillion (US$312.5 million).

Investment from now to 2015 will be VND2.7 trillion ($168.7 million) and to 2025, VND1.8 trillion ($118.7 million).

The preservation of My Son World Cultural Relics with the help of UNESCO has entered the second phase.

The project to preserve My Son is funded from the Italian government with US$435,000 in non refundable aid and US$19,000 from Vietnam.

The Italian government has agreed to provide non-refundable aid of more than $435,000 to preserve the ancient Cham tower complex in My Son, the People’s Committee of Quang Nam Province said Wednesday.

The funding has been allocated for the second phase of the project, due to be finished in 18 months, which will preserve the Group G towers of the world heritage site

The project also aims to increase the skills of experts and craftsmen in the local community, to preserve and upgrade important archaeological sites, create a foundation for the study and preservation of historical sites and heighten the cultural diversity in Vietnam and Southeast Asia.

One-pillar pagoda in Hanoi

Hanoi welcomed 3.8 million visitors, including 655,700 foreigners in the first half of the year, a year-on-year increase of 12.4 percent.

The number of holiday-makers from China , Thailand , the US and Australia increased sharply, leading to the shortage of hotel rooms.

The city is expected to welcome 7.6 million visitors with 1.4 million foreign tourists by the end of this year.

Ho Chi Minh City in the period welcomed around 1.5 million foreign tourists, seeing a year-on-year increase of 16 percent.

The central region also saw brisk tourist activities as the number of foreign visitors travelling by sea to Nha Trang and Da Nang cities and by land via international border gates of Lao Bao and Cau Treo swelled.

Wide-scale advertisement programmes also helped the World Heritage Site of Ha Long Bay in northern Quang Ninh province attract more foreign visitors. In June alone, the UNESCO-recognised world heritage site welcomed 213,000 tourists, including 130,500 foreigners.
