Mr. Pham The Duyet

VietNamNet Bridge – On the last day of the 9th Vietnam Fatherland Front Meeting on January 4, the Politburo announced the retirement of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee’s Chairman Pham The Duyet.

Duyet asked the Politburo and the Presidium of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee to retire at the age of 72.

He said he filed his retirement request in 2007 to give his position to a younger official, which was subsequently approved by the Politburo.

The new Vietnam Fatherland Front officials will be announced today, January 7. Duyet said there will be many changes and the number of members of the front’s Central Committee who are not Vietnam Communist Party members may increase to over 50% at the central level and 20-30% at local levels.

Duyet was previously a permanent member of the Politburo, Party Secretary of Hanoi and a National Assembly member for many years.

In early 2007, though he was nominated as a National Assembly member, Duyet refused to run for the post.
