A To Lich River where people enjoy music on floating boats is a fiction. It is a pain for Hanoians who have to live on the banks of huge sewers which were rivers in the past.

In the past, the rivers of To Lich, Kim Nguu, Set, Lu, and many others brought fresh water flows around Hanoi and helped regulate the hot weather in the city.

Nowadays, along with the fast urbanisation process, these rivers have become disgusting sewers, containing all kinds of rubbish. Residents who live along these rivers-sewers seem to temper themselves to live “healthily” next to these dead rivers.

Here are some photos about these rivers-sewers in Hanoi:

Some mobile markets appear on the bank of dead rivers, where people buy food and flowers in the bad smell of rivers-sewers

Is it a river or a dumping ground?
